On July 18, 2023, Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Zhang Ming met with the newly appointed Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the People's Republic of China Hussein bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi.

Ambassador Hammadi said that the Arab side rated highly, the work of the SCO, and is willing to actively participate in the activities of the SCO and deepen friendly cooperation.

Zhang Ming congratulated Amb. Hamadi on his new appointment and said that the Secretariat was willing to provide necessary assistance to the Arab side in participating in the mutually beneficial cooperation of the SCO.

A memorandum on granting the UAE the status of a SCO dialogue partner was signed on May 5, 2023 in Goa during the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the SCO member states.
