The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Forum on Traditional Medicine was held in Nanchang, East China's Jiangxi province, on June 27.
Shen Yueyue, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, attended the opening ceremony and delivered an address.
Shen noted that traditional medicine, as an important vessel of Chinese culture, plays an essential role in safeguarding people's health and facilitating mutual learning among civilizations and individuals. The SCO initiative on traditional medicine should put people first and espouse the values of mutual benefit, inheritance, innovation, openness and inclusiveness, she said. It is the SCO's job to jointly build a community of health to benefit people in all participating countries, Shen added.
Around 600 delegates from China and other SCO countries, including Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Petr Parkhomchik, attended the event. A document outlining the outcomes of the forum was issued afterwards.
