BEIJING -- Significant progress has been made on defense and security cooperation under the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a Chinese military spokesperson said on Friday.
Zhang Xiaogang, a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks when asked about China's cooperation on defense and security with other SCO members.
Noting that institutional meetings under the SCO framework have facilitated exchanges among member countries, Zhang said China has actively participated in SCO meetings, including those among international military cooperation departments of SCO member states, reaching a series of cooperation intentions on international and regional security issues.
Zhang added that pragmatic cooperation has also produced remarkable results. The defense departments and militaries of SCO countries have engaged in extensive exchanges in fields such as medicine, transportation, and humanitarian rescue, he said.
The Chinese military is committed to deepening defense and security cooperation with the militaries of other SCO countries, making more contributions to world and regional peace and development, Zhang said.
