COLOMBO -- The Global Governance Initiative(GGI) reflects China's growing role as a responsible stakeholder in global governance, particularly at a time when the Global South is calling for greater representation, said an Indian expert.

The GGI appeals to the Global South, as it stresses sovereignty, multilateralism and inclusivity, said B. R. Deepak, professor of Chinese and China Studies at the Centre of Chinese and Southeast Asian Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, in a recent interview with Xinhua.

According to Deepak, the contemporary value of the initiative is twofold: it addresses pressing governance deficits through a people-centered, action-oriented approach, and it broadens the agenda by providing alternative pathways that resonate with developing countries.

He also linked the GGI with China's other major initiatives, saying: "GGI, along with the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative, are indispensable pillars of building a community with a shared future for humanity."

They link development, security and cultural diversity as interdependent dimensions of global governance, he added.

Deepak underscored international expectations for China's role in areas such as UN-centered reform, renewable energy, health security, conflict mediation and digital governance.

The world increasingly expects China to help deliver cooperative solutions to shared global challenges, he said.
