The 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summer Event kicked off on June 26 in the China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Area, or SCODA in Qingdao, Shandong province, launching a vibrant summer season of culture and tourism with a series of events blending culinary arts, visual arts, and festive entertainment.
Among the highlights, the SCO chef invitational brought together city teams from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Sri Lanka to compete under the theme "A hundred tastes of the SCO: Shared flavors of the Silk Road". Contestants presented both traditional heritage dishes and innovative creations that reflected modern tastes and healthy lifestyles.
Meanwhile, an oil painting art exchange exhibition opened at the Qingdao SCODA Pearl International Expo Center, featuring over 40 works by artists from Russian cities such as Khabarovsk and Vladivostok, as well as from Qingdao and Weifang in Shandong.
Running from June through August, the 2026 SCO Summer Event features 16 major events covering trade, folk culture, and professional competitions. The festival creates an all-day international summer experience that boosts local tourism and cultural engagement.
